Be Your Hero

I could not find a Hero in my life. So I became One.” – Muniba Mazari

You are a Hero

The Merriam Webster’s Dictionary defines the word Hero as: “A person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities.” When one thinks of the word ‘Hero’ various images may surface . Those who value patriotism will see heroic soldiers on the battlefield in their minds eye, ready to give up their own lives for the greater good of their country. For some who have gone through troubles in their life have looked at their Pastors, leaders and sages for strength in a difficult time. Everyone has a hero. Whether it is a character of your favorite Movie or a person in your life who has been a beacon.

A Hero is someone who is respected, appreciated and revered. A Hero is not a random person who you’ve chanced upon. It is someone you know well, who you have gotten to know and come to appreciate their awesome attributes.

Have you ever thought that it is possible, even very likely that the Ultimate Hero is, no less, the person staring back in the mirror? Have you ever thought to acknowledge yourself, to appreciate yourself, to note your qualities, passions and strengths? The title Hero is not solely for those who own a rifle or for those who save the world; for you can be A hero in your own life. Every time you face a challenge, a struggle, a personal setback. Every time that you battle negativity and attempt to stay positive and cheerful you are giving yourself the greatest gift, for you are showing the world that you are a hero.

You are a hero. You can achieve more than you think and you have strengths, capabilities and grit. When you face a difficult situation, when your relationship with a lover has gone awry, when you can’t seem to find your bearing after a difficult heart break just think: “I am a Hero. I can do this.”

Believe in yourself enough to see that not only are you a hero for yourself, but you also have the power to inspire others around you. You can do more than you think and the fire inside of you can ignite many other candles. You can be a source of sunshine to others when they’re going through a rough patch, be a source of blessing for a loved one who is going through a difficult situation and being the light of other’s life by providing positivity, good spirit and kindness.

Be gentle with yourself. Be kind. Don’t forget that you deserve compassion, kindness and sensitivity. Treat yourself like your own greatest hero, because you truly are. Grant yourself the self-respect, the kindness and the love that you would give to your best friend.

Believe in yourself. You are a Hero.

  1. Great post. 🙂 I became my own hero after leaving behind a situation where I was always coddled by family – I longed to be independent and I got my wish. I’ve grown alot through the years that I’ve been independent & after saving myself from many things, it’s given me a new appreciation for help from others, too. Because no matter how strong we are, it’s nice to have someone there to back us up sometimes too.

    1. Very true! Sometimes when there’s nobody left and we’re going through a difficult situation it’s really the person in the mirror who’s the hero we’ve been dreaming of.. we’re the ones who can really get ourselves out of the rut.
Proud of you for being able to do that! 🙌
